Outline
First known as Kompas Gramedia Group (or 'Kelompok Kompas Gramedia' for some), it is the largest media company in Indonesia, established by Mr. PK Ojong and mr. Jakob Oetama. The group is well known for its many leading magazines, book stores, publishing companies, and KOMPAS newspaper, being the largest distributed newspaper in Indonesia.
Situation
The group of companies is too closely associated with the well known newspaper (Kompas), and its book store retail (Gramedia). This creates limitations on how they can communicate to the public, since the group has expanded its business outside media, such as education (UMN - Universitas Multimedia Nusantara), Event Organizing (Dyandra), Hospitality (Santika Hotel chain), and the development of Consumer Goods (Tessa Tissue). Naming becomes an issue since some people use the word 'Kelompok' while others prefer 'Group' to identify the brand of the company.
Solution
With the new identity, the group has solved their naming problem, while giving freedom to enter new markets. Currently the brand has been embedded to many applications, starting from media, up to their property business, giving an impression about the group, penetration towards different sectors. In the future, the name Kompas Gramedia will become part of life for Indonesians.
